Summary
Summary: As the spread of regional anaesthetic techniques is increasing, safety issues become more important. Neurologic lesions and infectious complications are of major interest. Prospectively gained representative data for Germany concerning these complications are not available. Therefore, the German Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI) and the Professional Association of German Anaesthetists (BDA) have initiated a network for the safety of regional anaesthesia. Apart from epidemiologic data necessary to describe true incidences, the network focuses on the identification of risk factors for the development of complications. At present, 25 centres nationwide are taking part in the network. After initial consent on the measured parameters, we developed machine-
readable documents, which are now being used in these centres. As the goal of the network can only be achieved with high numbers of patients, interested centres are very welcome to take part in the network. Further information can be obtained by the scientific working group regional anaesthesia of the DGAI or the website www.nra-web.de.
