Zusammenfassung:Wir berichten über eine intraarterielle Injektion von Propofol bei einer 21-jährigen Frau. Nach Injektionsbeginn klagte die Patientin zunächst über heftige Schmerzen. In der Folge war dann eine flüchtige Hypoperfusion, schließlich eine Rötung und moderate Schwellung der Hand zu beobachten.
Eine spezifische Therapie war nicht erforderlich; alle Symptome klangen innerhalb weniger Stunden ab. Intraarterielle Fehllagen der Kanüle sollten bei schlecht durchführbarer Infusion ausgeschlossen werden. Heftiger Injektionsschmerz ist ein Leitsymptom für eine arterielle Propofolinjektion.

Summary: The present report describes a case of accidental intra-arterial propofol injection. The 21-year-old female patient first complained of pain and thendemonstrated a short-lasting hypoperfusion and finally hyperaemia and swelling of the hand. All symptoms disappeared spontaneously and no specific therapy was required. In patients in whom infusion is difficult to perform, intra-arterial cannulation should be excluded. Strong pain during propofol administration is the main symptom for intra-arterial injection of this drug.
