Zusammenfassung: Es wird berichtet über die Ruptur eines Tubusballons während einer Strumaoperation. In Folge dieser Komplikation kam es zu einer Aspiration. Die Patientin wurde beatmungspflichtig und erlitt im weiteren Verlauf einen Hinterwandinfarkt.
Bei der medizintechnischen Beurteilung im Rahmen eines Gerichtsverfahrens wurde festgestellt, dass der Tubus vielfach aufbereitet worden ist und dadurch eine erhebliche Materialschädigung aufgetreten ist. Es werden die Befunde an dem Tubus und die Ergebnisse von Vergleichsuntersuchungen beschrieben. Die rechtliche Situation wird kurz beschrieben.

Summary: This report describes the rupture of the cuff of an endotracheal tube that occurred during goitre surgery and resulted in aspiration. The female patient required artificial ventilation and subsequently suffered a posterior myocardial infarction. The incident ended up in court and the ensuing technical investigation revealed that the tube had repeatedly been reprocessed, and this had led to appreciable material damage. The results of the examination of the tube, together with those of comparative investigations are desribed, and the legal situation briefly considered.
