Summary During the emergency transport of two patients in separate incidents unexpected ventilation problems occured while using the ‚Oxylog 3000 resp. 3000 plus ventilator (Dräger)‘ with the disposable hose set ‚Ventstar‘. In both cases the ventilator produced alarm messages, and the ventilation parameters showed misleading infomation e.g. a respiratory minute volume (RMV) of >30 l/min. Subsequent tests using the test lung showed that the indicated RMV was not applied to the patient. The cause of these faulty readings was a stenosis in the transparent flow measuring tube of the disposable hose set. In case 1, the hose had been compressed accidently during retighthening of the stretcher belt which secured the patient. In case 2, the transparent flow measuring hose was used to attach the hose set on the hook of the intravenous bottle holder, resulting in a kinked tube.
