Zusammenfassung: Die Infektionssicherheit von Transfusionen ist in Deutschland außerordentlich hoch. Das System der Haemovigilanz schließt die epidemiologische Überwachung der Spenderpopulation hinsichtlich HIV-, HCV-, HBV- und Syphilis-Infektionen ein.
Anhand der Daten von 2003/2004 wird das Restrisiko einer unerkannt infektiösen Spende auf <1:3 Mio. für HIV, <1:5 Mio. für HCV und ca. 1:400.000 für HBV-Infektionen geschätzt. Infektionen mit dem West-Nil-Virus stellen in Deutschland, anders als in den USA, derzeit kein Risiko für Transfusionsempfänger dar. Im Hinblick auf eine mögliche Übertragung der Variante Creutzfeld- Jakob-Krankheit sind in Deutschland eine große Anzahl vorsorglicher Maßnahmen implementiert worden, so dass angesichts der derzeitigen epidemiologischen Situation das Übertragungsrisiko als äußerst gering eingeschätzt wird.

Summary: In Germany, the level of safety of blood transfusions in terms of non-transmission of infections, is high. The system of haemovigilance includes the epidemiological monitoring of the donor population with regard to HIV, HBV and syphilis infections. On the basis of the 2003/2004 data, the estimated residual risk of an undetected infectious donation is less than 1:3 mio. for HIV, less than 1:5 mio for HCV, and approximately 1:400,000 for HBV infections. In contrast to the USA, in Germany, infections with the West Nile virus are currently not a risk for transfusion recipients. With regard to the possible transmission of the variant Creutzfeld Jakob disease, a large number of precautionary measures have been implemented in Germany, so that, in view of the current epidemiological situation, the transmission risk is considered to be extremely low.
