Summary Summary: Rapid monitoring of coagulation is essential for the treatment of patients with coagulopathy to be successful. The common coagulation parameters, prothrombin time und activated partial thromboplastin time are time-consuming processes and these measurements are hardly predictive of a bleeding tendency and transfusion requirements. In contrast, thrombelastometry/graphy is a promising point-of-care monitoring device which not only shows the initiation of coagulation, but also the speed of clot formation and maximum clot firmness. Thrombelastometry/ graphy is considered the gold standard to detect hyperfibrinolysis. All these measurements are recorded as a graphic representation of clot formation and subsequent lysis.
